I’ve painted two versions of one stormy sunset over the San Francisco Bay. One will be placed in the Berkeley Art Center Member show entitled Shine. I’m soliciting advice about which painting people like better. So, what is your vote?

Gosh, I just can’t decide. What do you think?
Gosh, hmmmmm.
I’ll bring them both to class Thursday and see what we think. The photos don’t give you ALL the info (brushwork, etc.) that can be important in deciding. jt
Joanne- Both outstanding!! I guess I have a slight preference to AS#1. A) the clouds have more contrast, definition, and presence. I can see monsters and goddesses and rabbits in them. and B) The GG bridge, of which I’m very sentimental about it and its place in the world, has more presence than the second version. In AS1 the foreground frames the bay; more centered, more calm. In As2 the bay seems to flow and move behind it. More motion.
In both paintings, the sun burns gloriously on the horizon. In AS2 I love the purple shadows/ silhouette edges and red mountain highlights, like Van Gogh at Arles. I also like the more subdued foreground of the second.
In both my attention is aroused; my eyes are constantly circulating the bay and its glorious skyline. In AS1 the circle is rounder; this painting more centered.
Both are so exciting. Thanks for sharing them.
I am bias to number one.
The play with light is outstanding.
