My wonderful cousin Ed Hahn grew giant pumpkins as one of his retirement avocations. I’ve painted him happily posed with one of his award-winning pumpkins as a 90th birthday gift for his wife (and my godmother), Elvira. We all miss your smile, Ed.
Christmas gift paintings this year were imagined old fruit crate labels based on our family’s prune farm heritage.
The Orange Truck Brand label commemorates our orchard truck, which was a cut-down 1937 Dodge van that had originally been a delivery vehicle for Galleon Laundry in San Francisco.
The Taeuffer Family Brand label commemorates my father’s least-favorite farming chore: pickin’ them prunes.
