My friend Penny had an art mentor who would walk through the studio encouraging students to squeeze out more paint on their palettes.
“Paint like you were a millionaire,” he would insist.
Lately I’ve adopted a more millionaire-like style, using paint thickened with mediums and slathered onto the canvas with a palette knife. Sometimes I add texture using highly designed implements (an old comb, the netting my small tangerines came in or a used toothbrush.) This view of Savannah, a small 6 x 12 inch painting, is one example.
