La Reine Milka

La Reine, a queenly Swiss cow.
La Reine Milka, a queenly Swiss cow.

I met this cow in a small Swiss village above the city of Sion. The substantial bell around her neck and all the bells on all the cows echo through the valley when the cows are living in the high country during the summer.

I named her La Reine and sent a photo to my French cousin, Stéphane, and his Swiss wife, Eli. Stéphane got right back to me with a suggestion. I should call her La Reine Milka because Milka Chocolates in Switzerland use a blue/purple cow as their advertising symbol.

“When little kids in Switzerland draw a cow, they usually make it purple,” Stéphane said, “because that’s the cow color they are used to seeing.”

Check out Milka Chocolate’s website and see their purple cow.
