Makes Me Laugh

The Split's Second, Or Me and Mr. T.

This painting makes me laugh. I chuckled my way through painting it. Now, I smile every time I see how I’ve captured my own attitude in that stance. And I want more of my paintings to inspire a giggle.

Another layer: It’s entered in the special theme category, “Split Second,” in the El Cerrito Art Association Annual Show this weekend. Get it: Split Second, the Split’s Second. Don’t know if the judges will get it either. But I was amused. (Oct. 2 Update: Split’s Second got a second-place ribbon in the theme category. Maybe that red ribbon on the split was a too-strong subliminal message!)

If you’re in the neighborhood, come out for the ECAA event. It’s a good show, with many artists showing their work. Here are the details:

Opening reception
Friday, Oct. 1, 7 to 9 p.m.

Show continues on
Saturday, Oct. 2, noon to 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, Oct. 3,10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

El Cerrito Community Center, 7007 Moeser Lane, El Cerrito.
